I am DUI and criminal defense attorney Baxter Harwell. I come from a long, proud family of attorneys, some of whom have become judges, serving the legal needs of residents and businesses throughout South Carolina. I have practiced law in Columbia, Charleston, and have made my home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Nearly fifteen years ago, I served as a State-wide Special DUI Prosecutor for the South Carolina Highway Patrol. While in that important position, I helped officers understand the constitutional rights of people charged with a crime. My responsibilities included assisting State Troopers in the detection and recognition of DUI suspects, proper roadside DUI investigation techniques, field sobriety testing procedures and the proper use of breath testing equipment. No other DUI trial attorney in Myrtle Beach has acquired the extensive legal experience I have attained in my career. During that time, I gained invaluable experience and an understanding of the strategies that law enforcement and the prosecuting attorney will use to argue for a conviction.

In addition to criminal defense, I also have extensive experience in the areas of residential and commercial real estate transactions. Prior to attending law school, I acquired several years of banking experience as a consumer, commercial, and retail bank manager for C&S National Bank of South Carolina, as well as worked for several years as a retail leasing agent for Edens and Avant, Inc., a large commercial real estate company in Columbia, South Carolina.
